Packing Tips
REMEMBER: a rucksack is not waterproof, but you can take steps to ensure that it is as water resistant as possible.
Only pack essential items, and if you are backpacking for a period of time, ensure that you make an inventory of the items that you have packed ? it?s easy to leave behind that extra gas cartridge!!
- The maximum weight that one should carry is approximately one third of the users body weight (around 4 stones)
- Pack so that the heaviest items, such as a Tent, are packed towards the top of the sack, and the lightest equipment i.e. Sleeping bags / Roll-mat are placed towards the bottom. The heavy items should also be packed close to the body; this will aid stability when walking, and the need to counterbalance the load will be minimised.
- Essential items, such as, Waterproofs, should always be packed so that they are within easy reach.
- In order to keep equipment dry, a rucksack liner, or individual stuff sacks should be used. Alternatively, use a rucksack cover ? (the Vango Exodus rucksacks come with a built in cover)
