Dumfries and Galloway is a sprawling rural region of south west Scotland and borders England at Gretna. It is the ideal destination for outdoor activities ranging from hillwalking, hiking, cycling and mountain biking, fishing, camping, astronomy, orienteering, sailing and anything else you can think of.

Mountain biking: The 7 stanes route that crosses southern Scotland has five of it’s mountain biking centres in Dumfries and Galloway at Dalbeattie, Mabie, Ae Forest, Kirroughtree, and Glentrool.

Hillwalking: there are well-marked walkways and networks throughout the region such as Dalbeattie Forest, Calfield Rig at Langholm, Carsluith, Mabie Forest, Drumlanrig Country Park, Wigtown, Glenkiln Scultpures, Kirroughtree Forest, Forest of Ae, and many more.

Hiking: the Southern Upland Way crosses Dumfries and Galloway passing through Beattock, Wanlockhead, Sanquhar, St. Johns Town of Dalry, New Luce, Castle Kennedy and ends at Portpatrick.

Camping: there are campsites throughout the region near walking and cycling routes, main transport routes, on the coast and further inland.

Astronomy: Galloway Forest Park was designated a Dark-Sky Preserve in 2009 and is ideal for astronomers and stargazers.

Fishing: fresh water fishing and sea fishing can be found in the region and along the Galloway coastline. Sea trout, sea pike and salmon fishing are all available.
