Help > Advice  > What are the features of a Rucksack?

Front View

Security Straps: located on the top (and sometimes the bottom) of the sack, they are used to secure items to the Rucksack, such as Roll-Mats and Tents etc.

Lid Pockets:  ideal for storing small, essential items i.e. cameras; passport etc.  A security pocket in the lid has the zip next to the users head when worn.

Quick Release Buckles:  used extensively throughout construction to allow fast securing and undoing.  Very tough and durable.  Fully adjustable to achieve desired tension.

Stormflaps (zips):  protects the contents of external pockets, by shielding the zips from the elements.

Ice Axe Fitting:  attachments for winter and expedition use.

External Pockets:  large capacity for storage.  Some are bellowed for extra capacity when needed.

Drawstring Baffle:  separates Rucksack into 2 compartments.  Useful when wet or muddy items need to be segregated from dry items.  Drawstring can be undone to allow for one large compartment.

Top Lid cowl:  cord locked, and elasticated to reduce water penetration.

Rear View

Tension Adjusters:  allow the sack to be drawn closely to the body.

Padded Shoulder Straps:  supports shoulders, in order to distribute the weight evenly. They also combat potential pressure points to aid comfort.

Adjustable Harness:  allows adjustment of back system to facilitate a perfect fit for comfort.

Airflow Back:  allows air to circulate around the users back to reduce condensation build up.

Load Bearing Straps:  initial adjustment straps for stability when fitting.

Padded Lumbar Support:  protects the lower vertebrae for comfort.  Aids positioning onto hips.  Distributes load between shoulders and hips.

Chest Straps:  stabilises the load. Holds shoulder straps in position.
