Help > Advice  > Boot Care and Maintenance Tips?

Care Tips

Always consult the manufacturers guidelines before treating boots.

Fabric Boots: Manufacturers may recommend the use of a silicone spray.

  • Some fabric boots may need a spray treatment, even if they have a waterproof membrane.
  • Boots should be treated immediately after purchase and may require several applications.
  • If after use boots are muddy, allow them to dry naturally, and brush off any dirt thoroughly before re-treating.
  • Silicone spray treatments will only prevent the fabric of the boot from rotting, and must never be considered as a waterproofing agent.

Leather Boots:

  • Remove laces and footbeds, and rinse boots under cold water.
  • Allow them to dry at room temperature.  Never place boots on a radiator or near a fire to dry.
Stuff the boots with newspaper to aid the drying process.
  • Once boots have been thoroughly cleaned and dried, re-proof using the manufacturers recommended treatment-usually a water repellent, wax based product.

Maintenance Tips

Always ensure that:

  • Laces are not frayed, and are in good condition.
  • Hooks, and D-rings are not worn or damaged.
  • Stitching and seams are not damaged.
  • Outsole is not excessively worn away. This may effect the grip on wet, or muddy surfaces.
